Manuel I, Comnenus April 8, 1143 to September 24, 1180.
Son of John II Born in 1120, he began his reign with a war against the Seljuk Turks and allied with the German king, Conrad III.
He was defeated 1156 by William I of Sicily and made peace for 30 years. He was again defeated in 1176 by the Turks at Myriocephalon, after which he was succeeded by his son
Alexius II.
