In 42 B.C. the triumvirate beat the army of Marucs Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus who hoped to restore the Roman Republic. he married Octavian's sister; however, after meeting Egyptian queen Cleopatra, he followed her to Egypt. In 31 B.C. he faced a new civil war where the armies of Antony and Cleopatra were defeated by Octavian near Actium. In 30 B.C., after a major defeat in Alexandria and duped by a false report of Cleopatra's suicide, Antonius took his own life.
